Dr. Charles Lee-Johnson, associate professor of social work, and Dr. Robin Duncan, dean of the School of Education: Received a School-Based Mental Health Services Grant in collaboration with the Riverside County Office of Education. This is a four-year grant, and the anticipated award amount to CBU is $513,024. The program aims to increase the number of credentialed mental health service providers providing school-based mental health services to students in local education agencies with demonstrated needs.

Dr. Charles Lee-Johnson, associate professor of social work: Appointed in December to serve a one-year term on the Riverside County Continuum of Care (CoC), Board of Governance. The CoC is a network of private and public sector homeless service providers whose goal is to assist people to achieve stability through self-sufficiency.

Michael Berger, professor of graphic design and visual experience: Worked with the Alvord School District's Board and superintendent to design their new logo and branding initiatives. He also designed the logo for the "Campus Riverside" initiative for the Riverside’s mayor's office.

Gingerbread shakedown

Graham Cracker Gingerbread House Shakedown event

The Civil Engineering and Construction Management Department hosted the Graham Cracker Gingerbread House Shakedown event on Dec. 13 with the CBU American Society of Civil Engineers student chapter. The event used a medium-sized shake table in the Project Hall of the Engineering Building. Twelve teams with 57 students from seven local high schools participated. Local engineers served as mentors and judges and high school science teachers and CBU faculty, staff and students volunteered. The APWA (American Public Works Association) Inland Empire branch provided $1,000 to cover cash prizes and the cost for materials.

Grace Brown, director of student success coaching, and her husband, Steven, welcomed a daughter on Nov. 1. Lincoln Elizabeth “L.E.” Brown weighed 7 pounds, 13 ounces and measured 19.75 inches.

Derek Moore, head wrestling coach, and his wife, Christina, welcomed a son on Nov. 20. Caleb Anthony Moore weighed 5 pounds, 13 ounces and measured 19 inches.
