Professional Accolades
Dr. Melissa Anozie, assistant professor of nursing: Awarded the Graduate Dean’s Citation for Outstanding Dissertation from University of Northern Colorado. She earned a Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing Education in December. Her dissertation was titled More than Nursing: The Experiences of Psychological Safety of Prelicensure Nursing Students that Identify as Black, Indigenous, and People of Color.
Dr. Michelle Nielsen Hernandez, professor of mathematics: Passed the Investments and Financial Markets actuarial examination on Nov. 28.
Dr. Liza Arellano, assistant professor of social work: Received a Certificate of Recognition from the California Legislature on Jan. 27 from Assemblymember Dr. Corey Jackson for her role in mentoring women in Sigma Beta Xi, a community-based sorority and nonprofit that provides youth development and mentoring services throughout Riverside County.
Kristin Beinschroth, assistant professor of radiologic sciences: Received the 2023 Elsevier Faculty Development Scholarship from the Association of Collegiate Educators in Radiologic Technology.
Making an Impact
Dr. Tad Hove, assistant professor of management: Selected to be a board member for Feeding America Riverside and San Bernardino
Dr. Dretona Maddox, assistant professor of social work: Screened her documentary, Worth One’s Salt, with the Inland Empire Maternal Mental Health Collaborative in Riverside and Rosemary’s Babies Co. in Ohio on Jan. 25-26. The film explores how maternal mental health affects families and communities and highlights the need for more support for black teen mothers.
Campus News
The Division of Social Work hosted its annual practicum fair on Jan. 27. More than 40 agencies attended the event, which provides undergraduate and graduate students a forum to meet with agencies and learn about practicum opportunities in the Inland Empire and surrounding counties.
