Dr. Veola Vazquez, professor of psychology, Dr. Joshua Knabb, professor of psychology, Dr. Charles Lee-Johnson, associate professor of social work, and Dr. Krystal Hays, associate professor of social work, spoke at Biola University's chapel on Jan. 17, highlighting work from their recent book, Healing Conversations on Race: Four Key Practices from Scripture and Psychology. Following that they provided a training on the book to Biola's faculty and staff.
Dr. Debra Coleman, associate professor of nursing, Dr. Pennee Robertson, associate professor of nursing, and Dr. Sarah Pearce, assistant professor of nursing: Repeat Simulation: Innovative Strategies to Disseminate Healthcare Education. 24th International Meeting on Simulation in Health in San Diego on Jan. 22.
Professional Accolades
Carie Guzman, senior undergraduate online admissions counselor/recruiter – Enrollment Services, was named employee of the month for February. Her nomination included the following statements: “Carie is constantly praised by students and her peers for her service. She genuinely cares for everyone she interacts with and channels the level of service we aspire to at CBU. She is a blessing to lead as we never worry that she is being a good steward of her time and is addressing all her work with superior attention to detail and customer service.”
Student Highlights
Seven photography juniors had an opening reception on Jan. 28 for their exhibit at the Chaffey Community Art Museum in Ontario. Collective Experiences is from the students’ work in the fall class of Visual Storytelling. The exhibit runs through March 30.
Christopher Kern, associate professor of photography, and photography students - Nico Carrillo, Elizabeth Wahl, Austin Elliott, Josiah Grant, Eileen Solorzano, Hannah Boone and Kayla Yogi - all presented to the Red Bull photography department at its headquarters in Santa Monica on Feb. 7. Kern talked about the CBU program, and the students presented their photographic work alongside industry professionals.
Sydney P. Boiselle, an illustration student, illustrated a children's book, Amber Goes Missing (Mitrice Media Press, April 23, 2023).
Personal Milestones
Emily Frigaard, administrative assistant for the School of Education, and her husband, Josh, welcomed a daughter on Jan. 25. Ilya Lenore Frigaard weighed 6 pounds, 8 ounces and measured 19 inches.
Sarahi Hidalgo, graduate admissions counselor, and husband Pablo, assistant director for industry partnership in the Career Center, welcomed a daughter on Oct. 13. Selah Marie Hidalgo weighed 7½ pounds and measured 21 inches.
Robert Thayer, graduate admissions counselor, and his wife, Jordyn, welcomed a son on Jan. 6. Carter Davis Thayer weighed 8 pounds, 12 ounces and measured 20 inches.
