Sonya Singh
Sonya Singh, instructor of journalism, organized and co-hosted the 2025 Fall Forum for Baptist Communicators Association. It was filmed at the North American Mission Board in Alpharetta, Georgia on Oct. 30 and featured speakers representing communications teams from across the SBC.
Dr. Erika Travis, professor of English, and Dr. Berniece Alspach, professor of English, were panelists on Claremont Graduate University's School of Arts and Humanities Alumni Panel Forum on Oct. 23 at Claremont Graduate University. Alumni shared insights about going from the doctoral classroom to teaching in higher education.

Beyond CBU

Dr. Mary Ann Pearson
Dr. Mary Ann Pearson, professor of communication and leadership, was elected as the incoming chair for Public Relations Society of American’s Educators Academy. She will serve in that role in 2026.

Mariah Maxwell, adjunct professor of music, professionally known as Mariah Meshae, performed in the choir for “Wicked: One Wonderful Night,” which aired on NBC and is streaming on Peacock. She is also on the soundtrack.

Campus News

Eric Taylor
Eric Taylor, assistant director of HVAC, energy & controls, led a project to install Venstar’s ColorTouch thermostats with Skyport Cloud services across 53 campus buildings. This will enable remote monitoring and control of nearly 1,000 HVAC units, improving energy efficiency and reducing costs while maintaining comfort for students and staff. Venstar wrote a case study on the project when it was completed.

Six students from the Bourns College of Engineering and CBU’s Tres Pasos program attended the American Institute of Chemical Engineers conference in Boston on Nov. 3. Led by Dr. Mario Oyanader, professor of chemical engineering, all the students presented posters at the conference. They were Samuel Berkebile, Sean Eperjesi, Krystal Marroquin, Ricky Rivero, Ruth Thibault and Gavin Walsh.

Priscilla Lee
Priscilla Lee, a chemical engineering student, presented at the American Institute of Chemical Engineers conference in Boston on Nov. 3. Her poster placed second in the Fuels, Petrochemicals, and Energy II division.
