The College of Nursing received $79,000 through the City of Riverside’s Community Development Block Grant program. It is funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to support the Mobile Health Clinic, led by Michelle Pearson-LoGiudice, assistant professor of nursing. CBU received one of the higher allocations as a first-time awardee.

This training was aimed at TK-12 school counselors in Riverside County who want to be certified to supervise graduate student interns.

Dr. Kristin Mauldin

Dr. Kristin Mauldin, associate professor of sport and performance psychology, was featured in an ABC17 News segment, Recovery after suffering gunshot wound extends beyond physical injury, experts say, where she spoke about the road to recovery for people affected by gun violence. Mauldin was also featured in an Instagram reel on the Association for Applied Sports Psychology about ways to create inclusive environments in sport and exercise spaces.

Amber Sega, director of university commencements and special projects, was named employee of the month for August. Dr. Jennifer Cruz and Montecito Masterclass Students

Dr. Jennifer Cruz, associate professor of music, returned for her fourth year as an artist-in-residence for the Montecito International Music Festival in Thousand Oaks, California, on July 15-23. At the festival, Cruz led a piano master class and provided individual coaching to high school through college level students.

The Civil Engineering and Construction Management (CECM) department hosted its 2026 CECM Summer Camp from July 14-16. Designed for fifth to eighth grade students, the camp introduced participants to STEM and engineering through hands-on learning experiences. With 29 students participating, they engaged in various sessions covering construction management, surveying, environmental engineering and shake table testing.

Naomi Hekman, mathematics senior, and Will Anklam, mathematics and computer science senior, presented at the ACMS conference at Calvin University on May 27-30. Their presentation, Evidence of Structured Robustness in the Genetic Code, reviewed work they did with Dr. Mike Sill, professor of mathematics.

Civil engineering students, Isaac Allen, Paul Hsing, Levi Schain, Thomas James and Dr. Jong-Wha Bai, professor of civil engineering and construction management and the team’s faculty advisor, represented the Pacific Southwest Symposium at the 2026 ASCE Civil Engineering Student Championship at Fairmont State University on June 25-27. The team earned first place in Field Tasks and second place overall.
