Coronavirus (COVID-19) Frequently Asked Questions

  • 1. What should I do if I feel sick or if I might have been exposed to COVID-19?
      • If you are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms or have been exposed to the virus, seek testing from a healthcare provider or use a home test kit.
      • Students can visit the CBU Health Center for COVID-19 testing.
        • Testing is available at the CBU Health Center ONLY for students who are symptomatic. The CBU Health Center DOES NOT have home tests available for purchase.
          • Since home test kits are NOT available for purchase on campus, residential students are encouraged to bring their own COVID home test kits to campus to utilize when appropriate.
        • To schedule an appointment at the CBU Health Center, call 951.321.6520. Walk-ins are also welcome.

          • Prior to your visit, visit the Health Center on InsideCBU and fill out the required downloadable forms. (Once logged in, click on “Life @ CBU” > “Health Center” tab on the left of the page.)
  • 2. How do I get tested if I am symptomatic or have been exposed to COVID-19?
    • Home test kits are widely available and can be purchased at locat pharmacies or obtained through your healthcare provider. CBU does not have home test kits available for purchase on campus.
    • Testing is available at the CBU Health Center only for students who are symptomatic.

    If you test positive for COVID-19 or have been exposed to a positive case, follow the Isolation and Quarantine Protocols Chart located on the last page of this document.

  • 3. What should I do if I test positive for COVID-19?
    • Individuals who test positive for COVID-19 are required by the County of Riverside and the State of California to isolate for five (5) days.
    • It is recommended that residential students who live within a 300-mile radius of CBU return home to isolate. If returning home is not a feasible option, students may isolate in their current on-campus residence.
    • Students who have tested positive should maintain social distancing as much as possible and wear a face covering if sharing a room with someone else and when around others.
    • If you test positive for COVID-19 or have been exposed to a positive case, follow the Isolation and Quarantine Protocols Chart located on the last page of this document.
  • 4. Will CBU provide isolation housing?
    • CBU will NOT provide isolation housing outside of a student’s current on-campus residence. Students are strongly advised to return home for the isolation period. If that is not possible, students should have a plan if they test positive. Possible considerations are listed below:
      • A location to complete the self-isolation period, including returning home if feasible.
      • A plan for transportation, such as using your own vehicle or transport by a family member, but no use of public transport.
      • Access to groceries/meal delivery.
      • Access to necessary medications.
      • A plan to communicate with your professors (students can contact the Student Care Office at 951.552.8100 or studentcare@calbaptist.edu for assistance).
      • Contact numbers of emergency contacts.
      • Contact information for their preferred healthcare provider.
    • The Isolation and Quarantine Protocols Chart at the end of this document provides an outline of what you should do if you are exposed to or test positive for COVID-19.
  • 5. Can students leave isolation early if they receive a negative test after a positive test?
    Any individual who tests positive is required by the County of Riverside and the State of California to isolate for the five-day period following their positive test regardless of a negative test after an initial positive test.
  • 6. Will CBU deliver meals to on-campus students in isolation?
    Meal delivery services will not be available; however, students who are isolating on campus and have a meal plan may order and pick up a meal from any on-campus dining venue that provides to-go meals. Isolating students are encouraged to wear a face covering when picking up to-go meals.
  • 7. Does the University clean or disinfect living areas if a student tests positive?
    Research indicates that curtailing the spread of the virus has been less about sanitizing surfaces and more about maintaining regular ventilation and air flow. CBU does not provide room cleaning but encourages students to purchase appropriate cleaning supplies should they want to sanitize their living areas.
  • 8. Does CBU require face coverings?
    • Face coverings are NOT required and are optional for faculty, staff, and students at any campus event whether located in outdoor or indoor areas of campus.
    • Individuals who have tested positive for COVID are encouraged to wear a face covering when circumstances require them to be outside of isolation (e.g., picking up to-go meals, visiting healthcare professionals, etc.).
  • 9. Should I wear a mask or face covering if I have tested positive for COVID-19?
    Yes, individuals who test positive for COVID-19 are encouraged to wear face coverings when circumstances require them to be outside of isolation (e.g., picking up to-go meals, visiting healthcare professionals, etc.).
  • 10. Does CBU require vendors and service providers to wear face coverings when they are on campus?
    Vendors and other campus partners are not required to wear face coverings.
  • 11. Does CBU provide face coverings or face masks?
    No, CBU does not provide face masks or face coverings. Students and employees should supply their own if they desire to utilize them.
  • 12. Is hand sanitizer provided for students, faculty, and staff?
    Touchless hand sanitizing dispensers are set up across campus.
  • 13. What should student workers do if they test positive for COVID-19?
    • Student workers who test positive or have been exposed to a positive case should continue to reference the Isolation and Quarantine Protocols Chart located at the end of this document.
    • Notifications:
      • Student workers are required to report their positive COVID result to Human Resources (951-552-8655 or HROffice@calbaptist.edu) to discuss next steps.
      • Student workers also need to notify their supervisor of their positive test result.
    • Supervisors will work with positive student workers to determine needed sick time and/or remote work time.
    • If a student worker is experiencing more severe symptoms and is unable to work, they should stay home, rest, and consult their primary care physician.
  • 14. Does CBU require COVID-19 vaccinations or boosters?
    CBU does not require COVID vaccinations or boosters for students, employees, or guests.
  • 15. What is CBU doing about cleaning, disinfection, and air flow?
    • The CBU Custodial team conducts cleaning and disinfection in accordance with current County of Riverside, State of California, and Center for Disease Control recommendations.
    • CBU reminds individuals to practice good personal hygiene to lower the risk of becoming ill.
    • To maximize air flow, the air conditioning (or heating) automatically operates in all classrooms and office spaces that are occupied.
    • In student housing areas, residents control unit thermostats.

Isolation and Quarantine Protocols

It is recommended that each member of the CBU community understand the County of Riverside, the State of California, and the Center for Disease Control guidelines regarding isolation and quarantine. Below is an outline of what you should do if you are exposed to or test positive for COVID-19.

 

Symptoms of COVID-19

Individuals with COVID-19 have had a wide range of symptoms ranging from mild symptoms to severe illness. Symptoms may appear two to 14 days after exposure to the virus. Anyone can have mild to severe symptoms. People with the symptoms listed below may have COVID-19.

  • Fever or chills
  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
  • Fatigue
  • Muscle or body aches
  • Headache
  • New loss of taste or smell
  • Sore throat
  • Congestion or runny nose
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Diarrhea

This list does not include all possible symptoms of COVID-19.

 

When to Seek Emergency Medical Attention

Look for emergency warning signs for COVID-19. If you or someone you know is exhibiting any of the signs listed below, seek emergency medical care immediately.

  • Trouble breathing
  • Persistent pain or pressure in the chest
  • New confusion
  • Inability to wake or stay awake
  • Pale, gray, or blue-colored skin, lips, or nail beds, depending on skin tone

This list does not reflect all possible symptoms. Please contact your medical provider concerning any other symptoms that are severe or concerning to you.

If you call 911 or call ahead to your local emergency facility, notify the operator that you are seeking care for someone who has or may have COVID-19.

 

Isolation and Quarantine Protocols Chart

ISOLATION – If You Test Positive for COVID-19

WHO Take the following actions

Everyone, regardless of vaccination status:

  • Isolate for five days and wear a mask if around other people.
  • If you are fever-free for the prior 24 hours (without the use of fever-reducing medicines) and your other symptoms are mild and improving, you can leave your home after the five-day isolation period.
  • Continue to wear a mask around others for five additional days.
  • If you have a fever or symptoms have not improved, continue to stay home for up to 10 days, until your fever resolves, and symptoms improve.

 

QUARANTINE – If You Were Exposed to Someone with COVID-19

WHO Take the following actions
If you are exposed to a positive case:
  • Wear a mask around others for 10 days.
  • Test on day five.
  • If you develop symptoms, get tested and stay home.
