SOCIOLOGY, B.A.

"Each professor that I have had for my sociology classes was interested in not only my academic success, but my personal and spiritual life. They challenged my perspective of the world and the many people groups in it."

What is the best thing about the sociology major at CBU?
The professors and the students are the best thing about the sociology major at CBU. Each professor that I have had for my sociology classes was interested in not only my academic success, but my personal and spiritual life. They challenged my perspective of the world and the many people groups in it. I enjoyed interacting with the students in the sociology major because most share the same curiosity as I, love people, and desire to serve God by helping others.

Describe one memory from your time at CBU that involves the sociology major, sociology classes or the sociology club.
In my junior year at CBU, I was able to join other sociology students and my professor in becoming a part of an outreach project called Adopt-A-Block. The project was through Crossroads Christian Church and their mission was to serve families in under-resourced areas of Corona. As a group, we were able to engage in activities with the children in the neighborhood, offer meals to families by visiting their home, and pray for God to intervene in their lives. It was a joy working with other members of the church and to witness one of our students push past her comfort zone to further the good news of Jesus Christ.

What has the sociology major done to help you prepare for your future goals?
I believe that the sociology major has made me aware of social problems in this world, differences and similarities among people of a different gender, culture and ethnicity, and the effect that one person or many people can have on society as a whole. This information that I have learned is vital to my future goal of empowering and walking alongside those who are in crisis. By understanding what the problem is and being willing to acknowledge differences while working with one’s strengths, I believe that God can use future situations that are laid out before me to glorify His name.
