Educational Leadership for Faith-Based Schools

"I was able to apply everything I learned at CBU to help improve the administrative functions of our school. I was better equipped to be an encouraging resource for our principal and preschool director."

Why did you choose this graduate degree program? What interested you in this particular field of study?
I searched far and wide for a master’s program specifically designed for Christian schools. When I came upon this program through an online search I knew this was the program I was looking for. I have a background in education as well as pastoral ministry. The church that I pastor has a K-8 school, and I wanted to be better equipped as an administrator and as a spiritual leader on campus.

What did you like about being in this program at CBU?
The work was challenging and relevant to Christ’s purpose and mission for Christian schools. The arrangement of the cohorts was also helpful and encouraging. I was blessed to be in the same cohort with such gifted people.

What did you think about your professors?
The professors were excellent! They challenged us to think beyond what we thought we knew, and they stretched us to seek God’s vision for our leadership. Every professor brought their own unique gifts to mentor us through the program.

Did you complete any field work?
I conducted a survey of school administrators in northern California. I learned quite a bit about the various schools, however the lack of response from many of the schools was frustrating. The ones who responded were very gracious.

How did you grow while in this program at CBU?
My understanding of Christian education expanded exponentially while at CBU. Dr. Heyman’s wisdom and love for the ministry encouraged me quite a bit. Listening to the testimonies and experience of my colleagues also helped me to grow both academically and spiritually.

What have you done since graduating?
I was able to apply everything I learned at CBU to help improve the administrative functions of our school. I was better equipped to be an encouraging resource for our principal and preschool director. We expanded our program to include a middle school.

How has your time at CBU prepared you for your life and career after grad school?
The program helped me be much better equipped as a school administrator, pastor and teacher.

Is there anything you learned at CBU that you still use in your professional life today?
Dr. Heyman’s constant reminders that Jesus is the Lord of our schools, and our students are valued stakeholders in our schools.

Would you recommend CBU to others?
I would recommend this program to anyone who is passionate about Christian education because the program is biblical and Christ-centered, and the instructors are humble, God-fearing servants.
