How We Are Preparing for You
Many things happen behind the scenes while you wait for your Class Registration week. After you sign up, we will evaluate all of your transcripts and tests scores to see what will transfer in to CBU and give you necessary direction depending on your major. Your Student Success Coach is so excited to work with you through the class registration process. You’ll be able to schedule an appointment with them once you receive your Launch Email.
Keys to a Successful Registration
The first thing we want you to know is that as soon as you receive your Launch Email, you will be able to schedule an appointment with your Student Success Coach who will help you through the entire process. If you prefer to try to register in classes yourself using the instructions provided through your Launch Email, then you are welcome to do that! Here are some things you can do to prepare.
Send in all up-to-date transcripts and test scores.
- If we do not have your most up-to-date official transcripts, then have them sent to us right away! We will not be able to tell you all the classes that transferred until we have these. This includes all AP, IB, CLEP, DANTES, ACT or SAT scores as well. Your Official Transcripts with posted grades will be utilized to determine your English and Math placement. Transcripts need to be official to be evaluated, so reach out to your school counselor or registrar to have them sent directly to CBU. Remember, if your final semester grades have not yet posted you will need to send CBU your updated Official Transcripts once they have posted.
Review your major planning guide.
- Your major planning guide includes the major classes and general education classes that you will need to take to graduate. There are also separate tabs at the bottom that will show you sample plans.
Use a computer and log in to InsideCBU.
- We strongly recommend using a desktop or laptop instead of a mobile device because it will make the process easier. Use your credentials (ID# and password) to log into InsideCBU. Select the “Academics Tab” at the top and explore to get familiar with this section of InsideCBU. Important note: don’t change your password until after you register in classes.
Set aside a two-hour block of time to register.
- It will take about 2 hours to register for your first semester. Pick a night (we recommend the night of your Class Registration date), brew some coffee, and enjoy picking out your classes.
It Is Your Class Registration Week!
You have made it to your New Student Class Registration Week! If you have not done so already, then we encourage you to first review the “Keys to a Successful Registration” tab that will help you feel prepared for the process. We hope that this is a fun experience for you as you think of the classes you will be taking during your first semester. If you are feeling a bit anxious as well, that is normal. Know that your Student Success Coach is ready to help you and will get back to you quickly to answer your questions.
Launch date details

- The launch email also includes a link to an instructional website that will take you through the steps in the New Student Class Registration Week.
- If you decide to self-register in classes it will likely take you about 2 hours and we recommend using a computer instead of a mobile device. Know that you can always meet with your Student Success Coach if you would like additional help.
What to Do after Class Registration

Frequently Asked Questions
No you will not! You'll learn how to choose the right classes as you complete the process.
During the process you will watch instructional videos on how to know which classes to choose based on your major and any units that transfer in. If you need help then you can work with your Student Success Coach who will assist you.
While the process typically only takes 2 hours, you can extend your Class Registration week if you need to. Just let your Student Success Coach know. You also have the option to meet with your Student Success Coach to complete the process, which will take about 30 minutes.
Once your schedule is finalized, then let your Student Success Coach know. Once your Student Success Coach has reviewed your schedule then they will let you know it is good to go!
CBU accepts AP, IB, CLEP and DSST tests and dual enrollment courses from regionally accredited institutions. Visit our transfer agreements website to see what tests scores are required for exams to transfer in for credit as well as transfer agreements CBU has with some local institutions. In order to receive credit official test scores and transcripts must be sent to CBU. For dual-enrollment students, an official transcript from the college or university that the dual-enrollment course is in conjunction with is required.
If you are transferring from a college or university and took an AP, IB, CLEP or DSST exam, you may receive credit for those exams at CBU. In order to do so, you will need to send an official copy of the exam to CBU.
If this is your situation there are a few things that you can do.
-
Let your advisor know while you are registering for classes and they can direct you on the best plan.
-
Send us the official copy of the test scores or transcripts as soon as they are available.
-
You can make changes to your schedule once CBU receives those final transcripts! Your Academic Advisor is an expert on the classes needed for your major, and they will review and sign off on your initial schedule. However, you are able to make changes to your schedule after it has been reviewed.
This process is intended to register you in your first semester classes only. However, after you complete New Student Class Registration, you may reach out to your Student Success Coach to help you build out a 4 year plan.
The standard time between classes is 15 minutes and should be sufficient for you to make it to class on time from any location on campus. Although many of our students choose to bring bicycles, skateboards and scooters to get around, you can easily walk across the campus within the allotted 15 minutes between classes. Shuttles are also available for certain class locations at certain times (i.e. CBU Flight Operations at the Riverside airport).
In order to evaluate your international college-level transcripts in sufficient time for Class Registration, please plan to send all official final transcripts (with English translations if necessary – we recommend University Language Services) at least 3 weeks prior to your Class Registration date. Only an official IEE Evaluation may be used to evaluate the official college transcript to receive transfer units.
Yes. Please submit transcripts from any college or university you have enrolled at. This includes any college or university course work you took as part of a dual enrollment program at your high school. If you participated in dual enrollment, you must submit the college or university transcripts so they can be evaluated for possible credit. If you do not submit all your transcripts you risk a hold being placed on your account that will prevent registration for future terms.
Pass/fail courses are accepted as long as the pass is equivalent to a C- or better. If this cannot be determined the class is not eligible for transfer.
The quarter unit value is divided by 1.5 to get the semester unit value. For example, a 4 quarter unit course would convert to 2.67 semester units.
You will learn how to do this once you begin the Class Registration process. It will be posted on your Degree Guide through InsideCBU. Your Degree Guide will show you all your degree requirements and if there is any course(s) currently meeting your requirements. Because your transcripts have not been evaluated, there may not be anything currently listed on your Degree Guide. However, when you begin Class Registration, it will be up-to-date based on the transcripts you have submitted.
If you believe one of your classes could fulfill a different degree requirement you will want to submit an Academic Variance request to have the course reviewed. If the course is for your major, minor, or concentration the Academic Variance will need to be submitted to the appropriate dean or department chair for review. If the course is for general education, the Academic Variance will go to the University Registrar for review. The Academic Variance form is available through InsideCBU under "Academic Variances."
Yes you can still apply for housing! You can apply for housing here. The $100 housing reservation fee is refundable for international students and required to complete the application.
You can check out all of the different living areas, including 360 photos and descriptions here. A housing application is required to live on campus.
After you register for classes, you will receive an official bill called your "course and fee statement." The Course and Fee Statement shows what courses you have registered for and provides the estimated charges and pending or accepted financial aid associated to that semester. We'd love to help you figure everything out if you have questions about billing.
Yes! We'd love for you to get a head start on a few items that are essential to beginning at CBU. A comprehensive list of these things can be found on the enrolled page.
