Taking inspiration from Seurat’s own masterwork, A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte, the musical merges a story of past and present when the second act focuses on a descendent of Georges, who is also an artist (coincidentally named George). Amid personal trials, both men search for meaning through the creation of art that will leave a legacy. Nominated for eight Tony Awards and winner of the Pulitzer Prize, Sunday in the Park with George artfully speaks to human desires for significance, connection, and knowing how to move forward in the face of hardship.
