Wallace Theatre presents Steel Magnolias
Steel Magnolias tells the story of a group of women in a small town who face both the joys and sorrows of life together. The play is set in Truvy’s beauty salon in Chinquapin, Louisiana. The boisterous Truvy dispenses both hair-product and advice with wise-cracks, with her eager new assistant Annelle at her side. The social group in the salon is comprised of a mixture of unique characters, including Ouiser, the town’s rich curmudgeon, Miss Clairee who is an eccentric millionaire, and their social leader M’Lynn whose daughter, Shelby, considered the prettiest girl in town, is about to marry a “good ole boy.”
Steel Magnolias explores themes of friendship, family, loss, and the enduring strength of women. Despite the tragedy, the play is full of humor and showcases the beauty of emotional connections and how people endure and find solace in the face of hardship.
