CBU Opera Theater at California Baptist University, under the direction of professors Stefan Miller, Fred Carama, and Juan Castaneda, presents a fully staged opera with orchestra each year. Most recently, the ensemble presented Charles Gounod’s Roméo et Juliette in Spring 2023. Previous productions include Donizetti’s The Elixir of Love in Spring 2022 and its inaugural performance of a collection of scenes along with a virtual production of Mozart's Die Zauberflöte in Spring 2020.

Stefan Miller
Director, CBU Opera Theater

Stefan Miller is a performer, director, and professor of music and theatre.  Recent theater credits include: National tour: THE SPONGEBOB MUSICAL (Electric Slate; Plankton and Perch Cover) RUDOLPH THE RED-NOSED REINDEER (swing), Off-Broadway: QUEEN ESTHER (Teresh) Regional: HELLOY DOLLY!, Musical Theatre West (Ensemble, Cornelius cover), JERSEY BOYS, CCAE(swing, Tommy cover), INTERSTATE, East West Players (Pastor Fred) TENOR BY NIGHT, El Portal Theater (Mike), STATE FAIR, Sierra Repertory Theatre (Fairtone), LITTLE WOMEN, The Chance Theater (John Brooke), OKLAHOMA!, 3-D Theatricals, WEST SIDE STORY, Theatre Royale(A-rab), OKLAHOMA!, Opera San Luis Obispo (Will Parker), OF THEE I SING, Bear Valley Music Festival.  A former professional ballet dancer, Stefan danced with the Oakland ballet as a soloist for several seasons and continues to perform in the Nutcracker around Southern California. Stefan is also a director and has directed both opera and musical theatre at the collegiate and regional level and recently was the assistant director for JERSEY BOYS at La Mirada.  Stefan earned his BM in Vocal Performance from the University of Pacific, his MFA in Vocal Performance from UC, Irvine, and is currently pursuing his PhD in Leadership at CBU, where he is also a professor of voice and musical theatre.  Stefan has also taught voice and musical theatre at Soka University of America and UC, Irvine.
