CBU alumna Sarah Ferrin designs dynamic spaces with Unscripted Interiors

CBU Interior Design alumna Sarah Ferrin has always enjoyed the creative aspects of life.
While creativity with colors, designs, and interesting spaces had intrigued her and become
a fun pastime, she didn’t see how it could become a sustainable career. For most of her
life, these interests served their purpose as sidelined hobbies, but that began to change
when she started looking into colleges.

Ten years prior, Sarah’s father was a guest speaker at CBU’s chapel service. Although
Sarah had been looking at other Southern California colleges, CBU hadn’t emerged as a
potential option. Sarah had plans to tour a completely different SoCal school, which she
was already leaning toward, when her father realized how nearby CBU was, and he
suggested that she check it out before finalizing her decision. Her first visit to CBU was a
complete game changer. “It was really like a God-moment, honestly,” Sarah shares. “I just
walked on [to campus], and I was like ‘Oh, this just feels right.’”

From then on, Sarah made CBU her second home. She formed tight bonds with the other
Interior Design students as they braved each semester together. Her relationship with her
professors also made a profound and lasting impact on Sarah. “Professor Bandak really
changed everything for me. She was so knowledgeable and was really able to change the
way I looked at design...she definitely had the most impact on me.”

Transitioning from Sarah’s college experience to her career, Sarah has found herself
working at Unscripted Interiors, an award-winning design firm. After wrapping up an
internship at Risepointe, another well-known architectural design company, Sarah began
hands-on work with her newest employer and was recently promoted to Junior Interior
Designer for the Model Home division. Unscripted Interiors’ work has been featured in
magazines such as Sunset, Interior Design, and Luxe Interiors + Design. For Sarah though,
her favorite part of her job is the ability to travel, be on-site, and walk the spaces with her
clients. “I’ve really enjoyed getting to go in-person and seeing it come to life. With this job, I
get to travel and see how design changes wherever I go.”

About her time at CBU, Sarah shares that “it was truly a place I could grow in all aspects of
my life. I got a great education, felt supported by my professors, could grow in my faith, and
was able to find some of my best friends.”
