A minor in forensic chemistry provides a foundation in both chemistry and forensic science which, along with knowledge of analytical chemistry, culminates in the study to forensic chemistry. This minor can complement a major in the biological sciences for students who plan to pursue a career as a professional criminalist but will not suffice as a stand-alone preparation for most forensic science careers.

Lower Division Requirements

A study of inorganic chemical systems including properties of atoms, molecules and ions, composition of matter, solutions, stoichiometry, thermochemistry, gas laws, electronic structure of elements, chemical bonding and molecular geometry. Course content is presented at a level required for Chemistry and related science majors. Lecture: 3 units. Prerequisite: CHE 102 or high school chemistry. (3 units; Fall/Spring)
