The aviation dispatch minor is only available for aviation management and aviation
flight majors. The aviation dispatch minor will deepen knowledge on airline operations
and dispatching as well as prepare students for the FAA Dispatch Practical Exam. Some
courses may overlap with your major courses, so consult with an academic advisor,
if necessary.
An in-depth study of airframes and aircraft systems, aircraft instruments, safety, aerodynamics, stability, physiology, weather, airports, airspace, emergency operations, ground reference maneuvers, charts and publications, and the principles of pilotage, dead-reckoning, as well as radio and electronic methods of navigation as applied to cross-country flight planning to prepare the student for the FAA private pilot knowledge test.

An in-depth study analyzing large aircraft weight and balance and performance charts, high-speed aerodynamics, instrument approach plates and high altitude enroute charts. An introduction to 14 CFR 121 and 117 regulations applicable to domestic and flag carriers will be covered. An analysis of aviation weather will be conducted including interpreting charts and weather theory. This course will prepare students for the ADX FAA knowledge test. Students must be age 21 to receive permission to enroll.

In-depth study of airline cross-country flight operations. This course will analyze performance limitations including applying MELs and CDLs, runway analysis charts, NOTAMs, PIREPs, RVR reports, operations around hazardous weather, and weight and balance considerations unique to large transport aircraft. Students will be expected to apply weather theory knowledge, aircraft system limitations and airline operation objectives to successful plan flights. Students will be introduced to airline quality FAA approved Air Carrier Operation Specifications and Dispatch Operating Manuals. Students must be age 21 to enroll.
