CBU's Master of Science in Nursing BSN to MSN program is designed to broaden student's theoretical knowledge base as a means of pursuing nursing career advancement and healthcare leadership opportunities as well as preparing for future doctoral study. MSN students develop, test and evaluate concepts in nursing while critically examining ideas, research and theories in relation to health issues and clinical practice in preparation for direct and indirect care.

This program is designed for working adults as students can choose between two formats: online with in-person residencies throughout the program or on campus and in person one afternoon/evening a week. Many students work full-time as registered nurses while in school. Research shows master’s-prepared nurses demonstrate professional-advanced practice skills important to patient safety. Graduates are prepared for seamless entry into doctoral education. 

Practice nursing with a holistic perspective

Consistent with CBU's faith-based mission, the master's curriculum emphasizes a holistic perspective utilizing nursing theory as a guide. Specially selected practicum opportunities allow candidates the option to practice in a variety of healthcare settings, while serving individuals, families and communities. Practicum hours are completed under the instruction and supervision of CBU's College of Nursing faculty who share the faith-based mission and holistic perspective for providing nursing care.

NUR 550: Nursing Science

Students examine the art and science of nursing as a guide for nursing practice at the Master’s level.

NUR 560: Advanced Assessment

Students integrate advanced knowledge, skills, critical thinking, and clinical judgment to synthesize person-centered assessment data while formulating differential diagnoses.

NUR 565: Advanced Nursing Leadership

Students explore advanced nursing leadership principles, advanced nursing roles, and evidenced-based practice to create effective systems change.

The College of Nursing has an excellent reputation in the community, as does the university. We anticipate our graduates will be actively recruited by local and state health care providers. CBU is the first four-year regionally and nationally accredited university in the County of Riverside to be approved for such a program.

Is this program accredited?

CBU is regionally accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). The master's degree program in nursing at California Baptist University is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education.

How long is the program?

The MSN program takes between 6 and 8 semesters.

Student Opportunities: Clinical Rotations

All MSN specialty courses require clinical practicum hours as mandated by the California Board of Registered Nursing (BRN). The CBU College of Nursing meets or exceeds all clinical hour requirements. To ensure students receive a variety of clinical experiences, rotations will take place at various hospitals, health care facilities and the community, as assigned.

Student Opportunities: Clinical Simulation Lab

For additional experiential learning, students also enjoy access to CBU's state-of-the-art Clinical Simulation Lab and Resource Center. These rooms are equipped with low fidelity and high fidelity simulation equipment, human-computer interaction programs, and advanced practice task trainers for customized learning.
