Frequently Asked Questions
What is clinical psychology?
Clinical psychology is the "application of principles, methods and procedures for
understanding, predicting and alleviating intellectual, emotional, biological, psychological,
social and behavioral maladjustment, disability and discomfort, applied to a wide
range of client populations” (www.div12.org).
What are the program's entry dates and application deadlines?
The doctorate in clinical psychology program admits students once a year — in fall
(September).
Our priority deadline is January 15, and our final deadline is August 1 of the year you are applying to.
How long does the admissions process take?
Once an application file and/or interview is complete, all applicants will be notified
of a decision approximately 60 to 90 days from the time they submitted their applications.
Is there an accreditation for the doctorate in clinical psychology program?
The Doctor of Psychology (PsyD) in Clinical Psychology program at California Baptist
University recently received its “accredited, on contingency” status with the American
Psychological Association’s (APA) Commission on Accreditation (CoA), retroactive to
September 2021.
The CBU program is now considered APA accredited, said Dr. Joshua Knabb, director of the PsyD program.
The “on contingency” part means that CBU still needs to submit a self-study for full accreditation, which includes data on graduates of the program. As of June 2025, the full accreditation self-study has been submitted to the APA CoA, and the APA CoA will be conducting a full accreditation site visit in fall 2025.
When do classes meet?
All classes meet in the mid-afternoon to the evening, typically from 4-10 p.m. on
Mondays and Wednesdays. This schedule is subject to change based on semester availability.
