
Diagnostic Medical Sonography, BS
Diagnostic medical sonography is a specialization of radiologic sciences that utilizes high frequency sound waves to create images of specific areas of the body from which pathology may be diagnosed.
Program Intro
CBU's diagnostic medical sonography program will teach students knowledge of anatomy, cross sectional anatomy and pathology as well as the skills to manipulate a wide variety of sophisticated instruments. Students will learn how to professionally care for and handle patients in both ambulatory and hospital settings.
The ideal student will have a passion to care for others, be academically strong in science and be motivated to serve as a healthcare professional.

Program Details
DMS 300: Echocardiography I
This course focuses on normal anatomy, scan techniques, cardiac measurement and new dynamics. Course instruction will provide basic instruction and scanning principles related to echocardiography.
DMS 320: Ob-Gyn Sonography
This course focuses on technical procedures related to Obstetrics-Gynencological (Ob-Gyn) scanning techniques, fetal anatomy and pathologies, and gynecological anatomy and pathologies.
DMS 380: Clinical Practice — Cardiac Sonography I
In this practicum course, learners will analyze and apply evidence-based clinical practice of cardiac sonography.

The Bachelor of Science in Diagnostic Medical Sonography program is designed for both first-time freshman and transfer students who want to earn a bachelor's degree in diagnostic medical sonography.
Up to 30 students are selected for the program annually for a fall semester start.
Selection is made through holistic admission and includes a combination of metrics,
attributes and experiences. Students can showcase their personal and academic achievements
through many aspects of the application, such as the cumulative GPA, prerequisite
GPA, letters of recommendation, experience, community enrichment and passion and understanding
of the profession. A minimum overall 3.0 college/university GPA on a 4-point scale
is required.
We have more applicants for the program than we have spaces available and we are very
selective. We consider students who are enrolled or have completed units at CBU and
then we will consider transfer students.

Student Opportunities: Labs
Students learn on state-of-the-art ultrasound equipment compatible with the equipment used in the field. Labs used in the diagnostic medical sonography program are licensed to conduct exams and procedures.
Career Possibilities
Graduates of CBU's diagnostic medical sonography bachelor's program will be well prepared for various careers in the health industry, specifically as a diagnostic medical sonographer.
