Statistics and Data Analytics, BA
Data has become the language of the world. It’s everywhere. With a degree in statistics and data analytics from CBU, students will be fluent in today’s high-tech economy.
Program Intro
CBU's statistics and data analytics major is for students who want to pursue a challenging and rewarding career that uses their natural problem-solving abilities and technological skills to solve real-world problems. In the scope of a career as a data scientist, students can work in such varied fields as climatology, ecology and more. The future belongs to data mining scientists who engineer and apply statistical analysis to interdisciplinary problems.
Why Study Statistics and Data Analytics at CBU?
Learn through experience
At CBU, we’re pushing the envelope, discovering new algorithms and finding new patterns and insights amid vast broadband fields of zeros and ones, things no mind has seen before.
Use the latest technology
CBU faculty and staff have access to supercomputers located all over the country, and can model, simulate and predict using big sample data that is bootstrapped or resampled thousands of times from these supercomputers. This means that CBU students are trained at the bleeding edge of technology and can use the most advanced software available.
What You'll Learn
Students graduating with a degree in statistics and data analytics will learn to:
- Have a solid foundation of mathematical and statistical processes at a level comparable to that of students graduating with a BA/BS in Statistics at other universities. Processes should include (but are not limited to) a proficiency in collection, organization, design, and drawing inferences from data using appropriate statistical methodology and problem solving skills.
- Demonstrate their ability to apply statistics in other fields at an appropriate level and demonstrate their ability to apply knowledge acquired from their major to real world models.
- Demonstrate mastery of data analysis and statistical concepts by communicating critically reasoned analysis through written and oral presentations.
- Acquire up-to-date skills and/or applications of computer and statistical programming related to future career choices.
- Apply their knowledge of statistics through an in-depth senior project/research experience. Results will be presented in both written (paper, publication, portfolio, etc.) and visual (PowerPoint, poster, portfolio, etc.) formats.
- Read, interpret, and critically analyze journal articles directed at undergraduate students.
