CBU's journalism and new media major offers three concentrations, allowing students to specialize in a particular path of study for their future careers in communications.
The broadcast journalism concentration at CBU enables students to learn about audio and video newsgathering, writing, reporting, editing and producing for broadcast news stories. Students who choose this concentration develop understanding of broadcast news writing, new judgment and construction of broadcast news, as well as social responsibility and an ethical framework for their careers as broadcast journalists.
Students in the media photography concentration will develop artistic and technical skills such as photo composition, focus, lighting techniques and photo editing, as well as journalistic skills, such as relating to subjects, reporters and editors. The media photography concentration gives aspiring media photographers the education, experience and opportunity needed to competitively enter the journalism field post-graduation.
Writing and Publishing
The writing and publishing concentration is designed to equip students in the journalism and new media program to graduate with a great understanding of the writing, editing and production process of news stories, columns, blogs and other pieces for print, electronic and online media outlets. Students will learn principles and practices of writing in the shorter forms of journalism as well as traditional news stories and feature pieces.
