Summer graduates encouraged to keep resolve that has guided them
Riverside, Calif. (Aug. 18, 2021) – Dr. Ronald L. Ellis, president of California Baptist University, congratulated summer commencement candidates for achieving their goal of earning their degree on Aug. 18.
“Today, all the demanding work and sacrifice poured into your college years finally pays off,” Ellis said. “The goal you have been pursuing at last is at hand. You have successfully navigated the various requirements, deadlines and assessments necessary to receive your diploma.”
Ellis delivered the summer commencement address in the Events Center where Online
and Professional Studies students participated in the ceremony. CBU will host two
additional commencement ceremonies on Aug. 19 for traditional undergraduate and graduate
students.
Combined applications for graduation for summer 2021 commencement ceremonies included 17 candidates for doctoral degrees, 608 for master’s degrees and 376 for bachelor’s degrees for a total of 1,001 applicants.
Ellis acknowledged that the graduates were uniquely challenged in the past year as they finished their degrees.
“You weathered continual changes, interruptions and unknowns caused by a global pandemic. You adapted to these unprecedented circumstances and finished strong,” Ellis said. “But all have met that challenge by continuing to develop their knowledge and skills with integrity. For that, you are truly distinguished and well prepared to make the most of your CBU experience.”
Ellis said their time at CBU helped equip the graduates for what lies ahead.
“May you move forward with the same resolve that has guided you to this joyful day of celebration. May your CBU experience and your CBU degree serve as solid building blocks in a sturdy foundation for all your ambitions and dreams,” Ellis said. “May you also take with you a continuing passion for learning, the friendships made and the life lessons gained during your college years. My earnest hope and prayer is that each of you will embrace this new beginning with Lancer enthusiasm.”
