Riverside, Calif. (Sept. 3, 2024) – California Baptist University is selling tickets for its theatre season, allowing audience members to enjoy amazing productions by the Shelby and Ferne Collinsworth School of Performing Arts. Season tickets for the 2024-25 season include a ticket for two plays, two musicals and A CBU Christmas.

This season, the School of Performing Arts is celebrating “The Greatest of Their Time.”

“All productions in this exciting theatre season are either directly from or based on the works of artists considered to be among the greatest of their respective fields and eras,” said Dr. Joseph Bolin, dean of the Collinsworth School of Performing Arts.

Performances include “The Importance of Being Earnest,” “Sunday in the Park with George,” “The Book of Will” and “Little Women: The Musical.” Along with the four theatre productions, season ticket holders also will receive a ticket and preferred seating for the annual A CBU Christmas performance.

The 2024-25 season has a secondary theme that aligns with CBU’s own motto of “Live Your Purpose;” it is “be who you were made to be.” The productions explore the trials that the protagonists encounter when they do not live in accordance with their calling.

“The Importance of Being Earnest” opens on Oct. 11 and runs through Oct. 20. The comedic play satirizes the conventions and manners of Victorian society as the plot revolves around two young men who adopt fictional identities to escape their social obligations.

“Sunday in the Park with George,” a masterpiece by Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine, is one of the most acclaimed musicals. The lead actors search for meaning through the creation of art that will leave a legacy. It runs Nov. 15-24.

December features the seventh annual production of A CBU Christmas. Over 400 musicians, singers and actors will join forces to celebrate the true meaning of Christmas through music and theatre.

“The Book of Will,” based on the most prolific playwright of all time – William Shakespeare – serves as a touching tale about interpersonal connection, exploring responsibilities to one another and the joys experienced when sharing burdens with one another. The play, written by the most produced living playwright, Lauren Gunderson, runs Feb. 21-March 2.

“Little Women: The Musical” will make its CBU stage debut on April 4-13. The story of the March sisters is a timeless coming of age story of sisterhood that has enjoyed enduring popularity with each generation.
