Riverside, Calif. (Dec. 12, 2016) – Hundreds of master's degree candidates at California Baptist University will be celebrating their academic achievements at hooding ceremonies this week, leading up to commencement ceremonies on Dec. 15.
Many colleges and schools hold individual hooding ceremonies to recognize their candidates and also give students their distinctive colored hoods to wear at the commencement ceremony. The hooding ceremonies also allow the students’ families an opportunity to meet faculty and staff.
More than 200 master’s degree candidates are eligible to participate in CBU’s fall commencement ceremonies at the Citizens Business Bank Arena in Ontario. Among those receiving graduate degrees, the largest number from a single college or school totaled 40 candidates from the Bonnie G. Metcalf School of Education and 38 from the Dr. Robert K. Jabs School of Business. Additionally, through its various programs, the Online and Professional Studies had 95 master’s students who applied for graduation this fall.
At the modern language and literature hooding ceremony held on Dec. 12, Dr. Laura Veltman, associate professor of American literature, encouraged students to use their words in service of God.
“Our hope for these students is that they will carry their love of words and language as well as their love for their creator God to a world desperately in need of words that matter and of the Living Word, God himself,” Veltman said.
