Riverside, Calif. (Sept. 29, 2025) — California Baptist University unveiled a monument on Sept. 26 to honor Dr. Ronald L. Ellis’ 30 years of leadership.

The monument is near the Kugel in the Ronald L. and Jane Dowden Ellis Great Commission Plaza.

During the event, Dr. Anthony Dockery, chair of CBU’s Board of Trustees, shared some of Dr. Ellis’ signature phrases from over the years.

“This one is my favorite — CBU is a ‘university committed to the Great Commission,’” he said. “The Core Four student outcomes, the ISP trips, the Lausanne Movement. Every initiative is intentional to deliver upon what is asked of God’s people–to go out into the world and make disciples.”

Dockery also highlighted “May the Lord continue to bless.”

“That blessing is not abstract — it is seen in lives changed, in students sent out across the globe and in a university that continues to flourish,” he said. “Perhaps the greatest blessing has been God’s provision of faithful leadership. Building CBC into the wonderful institution it is today did not happen overnight. It took a targeted vision — strength to stay the course yet a nimbleness to pivot when needed.”

Ellis said for him and his wife, Jane, the 30 years had flown by.

“I extend my sincere and deep gratitude to the trustees for allowing us to live our dream,” he said. “This recognition really touches our hearts.”

The monument was first announced during a January celebration that honored Dr. Ellis and commemorated his 30 years of leadership at CBU. He marked his official anniversary in November 2024.
