CBU ticket package available for theatre and musical performances

Riverside, Calif. (Sept. 14, 2023) – This year California Baptist University is selling theatre season tickets, allowing audience members enjoy an amazing season by the Shelby and Ferne Collinsworth School of Performing Arts. Season tickets include a ticket for the four theatre shows in the 2023-24 season and A CBU Christmas, the annual holiday musical performance.

The theatre shows are being called A Season of Great Authors and will include “Frankenstein” by Mary Shelley, “Dietrich and Maria” an original musical about Dietrich Bonhoeffer, “Murder on the Orient Express” by Agatha Christie and “The Hunchback of Notre Dame” by Victor Hugo.

“Frankenstein” opens on Oct. 13 – appropriately, Friday the 13th. The book is frequently considered the first science fiction novel ever written.

“Dietrich and Maria” looks at Dietrich Bonhoeffer, a German theologian and author who joined the resistance movement against Hitler. The new musical — co-written by Dr. Glenn Pickett, professor of music at CBU — makes its debut in November.

December features the sixth annual production of A CBU Christmas, “The Spirit, Songs and Story of the Season.” World-renowned artists and more than 400 CBU students will join forces to celebrate the true meaning of Christmas with music and theatre.

In February, Hercule Poirot will find himself on a train, trying to solve a murder. Guinness World Records lists Christie as the best-selling novelist of all time. Her estate claims that her works have been outsold by only Shakespeare's works and the Bible.

 “The Hunchback” is based on Hugo’s novel and includes songs from the animated Disney film. Hugo’s story of love and sacrifice will be onstage in April.
