CBU continues to build partnerships in South Korea

Riverside, Calif. (July 29, 2026) – A relationship years in the making is paving the way for new international opportunities at California Baptist University. Earlier this year, CBU signed a memorandum of understanding with Pusan National University in Busan, South Korea. The partnership is designed to connect students and faculty through research, academic programs and cross-cultural experiences. 

“The relationship connects CBU with one of South Korea's leading national universities and creates opportunities for student and faculty collaboration, academic partnerships and research initiatives,” said Dr. Bryan Davis, dean of Global Engagement at CBU. 

The MOU provides a framework for future collaboration in areas such as student and faculty exchanges, summer programs, research initiatives and online collaborations. The agreement is designed to create opportunities in both directions, Davis said.  

“Through these exchanges, both institutions will benefit from increased collaboration, deeper cross-cultural understanding and stronger academic relationships that can grow for years to come,” Davis said. 

CBU has previously signed 12 MOUs with other universities in South Korea.  

“These partnerships help create opportunities for student mobility, faculty collaboration, academic exchange, recruitment and research while strengthening CBU's presence in one of the world's leading educational and technological economies,” Davis said. 

While no specific programs have begun yet, engineering and business are both areas for future collaboration, Davis said.  

The MOU creates a framework for developing innovative projects that advance the academic, research and global engagement goals of both institutions while strengthening CBU's long-term presence in South Korea. 

“Ultimately, the purpose of this MOU is to give both universities the flexibility to identify and pursue new opportunities as the relationship grows,” Davis said. 

This MOU furthers CBU’s pursuit to be academically prepared and globally minded, said Dr. Charles Sands, provost and senior vice president for Academic Affairs. It provides opportunities for faculty and students at both universities to grow culturally and in their respective fields. 

“This partnership adds a richness to the educational experience for our students and faculty,” Sands said. “We are excited for the expanded opportunities this will provide participants from both universities.”
