Incidents of xenophobia, intolerance and violence against Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (AAPI) that tragically have increased during the COVID-19 pandemic must not be allowed to continue.

California Baptist University emphatically condemns prejudice and hate crimes targeting persons, communities, and businesses because of race or ethnicity. The year-long escalation in acts of prejudice specifically aimed at the AAPI community including bullying, harassment, hate crimes and discrimination is despicable and unacceptable.

Such acts of anti-Asian bias, intolerance, and violence are completely incompatible with the values taught and embraced by California Baptist University; indeed, such behavior is entirely contrary to the values of our great nation.

As stated before, the vision of CBU as “a University Committed to the Great Commission” is unalterably linked to the Great Commandment and Christ’s admonition to “love your neighbor as yourself.”

CBU calls upon persons of faith and goodwill everywhere to recognize, denounce, and actively oppose race-based bigotry directed at the AAPI community. We encourage positive steps to develop awareness of these heinous attacks on persons of Asian origin and pursue steps designed to end bigotry and promote empathy and compassion towards all.
