CBU celebrates new mobile health clinic with ribbon cutting ceremony
Riverside, Calif. (Aug. 31, 2023) – Faculty, staff, students and community members gathered on the campus of California Baptist University on Aug. 30 for a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Mobile Health Clinic that will serve local communities.
The newest venture in the College of Nursing, the 39-foot-long, full-service clinic will provide free and low-cost primary care services to underserved communities.
“The Nursing Mobile Health Clinic is a perfect example of what CBU represents: identifying a need, developing a plan to meet the need and serving others through the fulfillment of that need,” said CBU President Dr. Ronald L. Ellis. “CBU is committed to serving others in this way every day as we continue to individually and collectively live our purpose.”
Dr. Karen Bradley, vice president for CBU Health and dean of the CBU College of Nursing, said the mobile clinic is a symbol of compassion in motion.
“It signifies to the community the belief that nursing education and healthcare extends well beyond the walls of a hospital. The student nurses who will be staffing the clinic and providing care alongside licensed faculty are learning the art of nursing and embracing their call to serve,” Bradley said. “They will experience the age-old question, who is my neighbor? And the resounding response will be that every person in the community is our neighbor deserving of care, respect and compassion.”
The Mobile Health Clinic is expected to start serving patients this fall. Staffed by licensed faculty and students from CBU’s College of Nursing, the Mobile Health Clinic will offer a range of services including health screenings, immunizations, lab testing, treatment for acute and chronic illnesses and more.
The mobile clinic was ordered from Mission Mobile Medical. Its $365,000 cost was made possible through a grant and gifts from generous donors, including the Messner and Downs families from Downs Energy.
Sherry Messner, co-owner of Downs Energy, shared that the family gives because God wants people to experience the joy of giving to others.
“We acknowledge that all we have is the Lord’s, and we are responsible to use it glorify Him. We know this mobile clinic will bless others, and we're excited to be a part of that blessing,” Messner said.
