CBU celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month with fiesta
Riverside, Calif. (Oct. 10, 2023) – Picture lively salsa music, a kaleidoscope of color, delicious food, dancing and cultural activities. The Hispanic Heritage Fiesta will feature all that on Oct. 10 as California Baptist University celebrates Hispanic culture and history.
Community Life and the Latino Student Union will host the event recognizing Hispanic Heritage Month, which runs Sept. 15–Oct. 15.
Community Life strives to hold several cultural events throughout the year to recognize the diversity of cultures on campus and make students feel seen, said Jamie Eriksen, director of campus activities.
“While we plan and produce numerous programs throughout the year, we love highlighting different cultures,” Eriksen said. “These events provide a wonderful opportunity for students to gather and connect while celebrating other cultures.”
Eriksen said the event will highlight Hispanic culture in a few ways including traditional music and food, a salsa dance instructor and cultural activities.
“We hope that students walk away with a greater appreciation and understanding of Hispanic culture,”
Eriksen said.
Emily Lee, a Community Life intern, encouraged all students to attend.
“It’s a fun event with music, activities and food, where students can come have a good time, but also
be engaged in learning about culture,” Lee said.
Dylan Van Der Hock, a public relations junior from Argentina, appreciates the celebration.
“This month means a lot for me because it makes me feel at home, and there is nothing
better than remembering where you come from,” Van Der Hock said. “It feels good to
know that our culture is recognized thanks to this month's celebration, especially
when you are far away from home.”
