Black History Month Q&A: Ron Hawkins

Black History Month Q&A: Ron Hawkins

Black History Month Q&A: Ron Hawkins

Riverside, Calif. (Feb. 28, 2023) – We are wrapping up our Black History Month series with Ron Hawkins, director of business and educational partnerships for enrollment services at California Baptist University.

Hawkins said Black History Month is a great time to reflect and celebrate the love God has for all His children.

What does Black History Month mean to you?

Black History Month, to me, is a time to celebrate and remember those who sacrificed and paved the way to make this country a better place. It also reminds me of the current positive contributions that African Americans make to this great nation.

Who has served as inspiration to you?

My parents, James and Dorothy Hawkins, have been my greatest inspiration. They’ve led from a place of godly love, and they’ve always expressed the importance of faith, family and friendships.

What role does your faith play in celebrating Black History Month?

My Christian beliefs and relationship with God are the focal point of my life. Black History Month reminds me that worshiping Christ has always been important in African American communities. During those times when life has gotten tough, it’s been the hard work of our ancestors and their faith in God that has allowed us to move forward. The Bible says, “So you see, faith by itself isn’t enough. Unless it produces good deeds, it is dead and useless,” James 2:17 (NLT). Black History Month is a great time to reflect and celebrate the love God has for all of His children!

Why is it important that we celebrate Black History Month?

As a society, we should recognize and celebrate the contributions that African Americans have made to our country. Black History Month also celebrates and promotes diversity.

How do you live your purpose in your role at CBU?

I live my purpose at CBU by serving others. To me, it’s important that I serve my team, colleagues and students with a helpful heart. I want my light to shine so that everyone I make contact with can tell that I am a child of God!
