Why should you get a Fitness Assessment?
A fitness assessment includes body weight, hydration level and a reading of body composition which reveals the proportion of fat and fat-free tissue in the body. Another component of the fitness assessment is full body circumference measurement. With this information, you and your personal trainer can put together a proper fitness program that revolves around improving your current physical status. If you are not involved in personal training, you can take this information and set a platform for yourself to improve upon based on your fitness assessment numbers. Completing your fitness assessment is a start to a path towards bettering your health regardless of what your goals are. Knowing your numbers will empower you to make informed decisions about your health.

How to get your Fitness Assessment:
Fitness Assessment Hours: Tuesday Thursday: 2 - 7 p.m.
Come in to the Rec Center, Tuesday through Thursday, ask for our Fitness Intern, and get your personalized fitness assessment! It is quick and easy; first you will weigh yourself using a Bioelectrical Impedance Analyzer. This machine will calculate your body fat percentage and hydration level. Next, your total body fat in lbs. and fat free mass in lbs. will be calculated. You will also have body circumference measurements done.

What is Bioelectrical Impedance Analyzer?
Procedure: Through a small electrical signal the machine measures the resistance of body tissues. Person should step onto the machine with shoes and socks off, legs slightly apart.
How it Works: Bioelectrical impedance analyzer measures the resistance of body tissues through the flow of a small electrical signal. The amount of body fat can be calculated because the current flows easily through the parts of the body that consist mostly of water. For example blood and muscle; the signal has a harder time going through bone and fat.
Reliability: It is important to take the test in a controlled state and to be hydrated, as dehydration may cause the amount of fat to be overly calculated.
