Brett Landfield, '09 B.S. Marketing
Heidi Ravenhorst, '09 B.S. Accounting
"My CBU professors treated me like a professional, not just a student. Throughout
the program, I was consistently challenged to think outside the box, to stretch myself.
This really helped prepare me for the responsibilities of the workplace.
"I also benefitted tremendously from the wealth of outside field experience my professors brought into the classroom. They advised me on what to expect in the real business world, and what employers are looking for in a professional.
"But they also taught me the importance of developing and adhering to my own set of moral principles. Every business topic was discussed from a Christian perspective. I’ve found this to be very helpful in reaching my professional goals."
Christina Gonzalez, '11 M.B.A.
"I got my master's degree because I wanted to make myself more marketable. My experience at CBU was a very pleasant one. Two years went by very quickly. It was a nice experience to be able to leave work and enter a classroom setting that integrated Christian principles and where I could network with other individuals from other industries. My education has made me a far more effective leader. I have become more patient and able to approach people and situations in different ways."
Nicole Troiano, '09 M.B.A.
"I pursued my M.B.A. at CBU because I wanted to push myself and realize my true potential. I chose CBU because of my experience as an undergraduate there. My professors set me up for success and I appreciated the biblical foundation they incorporated in their classes. My experience was relevant to my career because my professors were able to bring their real-world experiences in the classroom. Going through the program has made me a more effective leader because it has given me the proper tools for relationship building and helped me better recognize talent and ability in others."
Scott Kraus, '08 M.B.A.
"CBU's MBA offers an excellent balance of business and ethics. My professors did an
outstanding job of showing me how to blend my faith with business. That moral reinforcement
helps me know who I am, and that I'll do the right thing in ethically ambiguous business
The small class sizes allowed for a lot of personal interaction with my professors. Instructors were accessible, and really cared whether we understood the subject matter and applied it correctly.
"As a working professional, I was able to put what I learned to immediate use in my work situation. So my company benefitted from my CBU experience as well. I absolutely believe the MBA program made me a better, more efficient professional.
My biggest take-away from the program: it taught me to communicate effectively with business professionals from diverse backgrounds and disciplines. I would definitely recommend CBU's MBA to anyone seeking a balance of business competencies and business ethics."
Rebekah Miller, '13 B.S. Kinesiology
From the basics of anatomy and physiology to my capstone class piecing together every
major topic in kinesiology, I have been blessed with a practical and applicable education
by my professors in CBU's Kinesiology and Health Science departments. They have supplied
me with resources and networking opportunities to pursue internships, field work experiences,
graduate school, and future careers.
CBU's Kinesiology program incorporated the spiritual component of health which few universities. As an athlete, I value the information I absorbed through my course of study and have a better understanding of how the body functions under stress and exercise and how to be as efficient as possible.
I have grown in many ways as I worked through the program. In the beginning, I relied heavily on my professors to teach me exactly what I needed to know and held them responsible for my education. After a couple semesters, however, I took the responsibility on myself to do more in-depth study in areas of interest or confusion, and approach them with questions or ideas for further thought.
Now I am applying for graduate schools for my master's degree in Health Promotion and Education. During my time at CBU, I pursued many internships and relevant work experiences including personal fitness trainer position, Certified Nurse Assistant, Arthritis Foundation intern, teacher assistant and research assistant. Being proactive in the early years of my undergraduate education is paying off as I have the desirable experiences for acceptance into graduate schools.
Alvin De Johnette, '05, '06 M.S. Education
"I had been an employee of the Moreno Valley School District for several years working
as a custodian, security guard and in mail delivery. I wanted to become a teacher
but didn't have the time to go to school during the day."
When I heard about CBU’s accelerated bachelor's degree completion program as well as their spiritual background, I knew it was the right fit. As a student, I had a hard time gauging the quality of the education I was receiving at CBU because I didn't have experience taking classes at any other universities. It was only after I began my first teaching assignment that I understood that I was far better equipped as a first-year teacher than many of my peers. My experiences as a student at CBU have had a tremendous impact on my life personally and my career as a professional educator."
Sally Jackson, '99, '07 B.A. Liberal Studies, M.S. Education
"I fell in love with CBU on my first visit during a new student campus preview day.
The faculty, staff and students were very personable and God spoke to my heart about
enrolling at CBU. I completed my bachelor’s degree there and as well as my Pupil Personnel
Services School Psychology credential.
"I value highly the quality of training and education I have received at CBU. Every professor I was exposed to taught from first-hand experience. The number of students in my classes was small enough to allow me to get the personal attention I needed from my instructors. I came to love and respect each of them and my classmates. It's like we are one big family! Having instructors who love the Lord and love what they are doing has been an inspiration for me and has provided great examples I can model in my career as a school psychologist."
Machie Tabaru, '15 B.S. Construction Management
"What I love about CBU is that their professors are willing to invest their time and they truly care about how you are doing in school. I find that to be really important to be successful in school and in life."
Chase Magdelano, '14 B.S. Construction Management
"The other day, we had the opportunity to visit a project site. The project manager
walked us through and showed us the work they do on a daily basis. He pulled out the
blueprint and gave us a hands-on experience about how it works in the real world.
At CBU, we are challenged and motivated to prepare to lead someday.
"I want to be in charge and I know that I will receive the foundation I need to be a leader in my industry."
Brittany Mammano '14 B.S. Biology
"CBU's biology program prepares me well for a career in medicine because all my science professors know me personally and I feel that is more valuable that being just a number at a larger university."
Maria Roque '12 B.S. Biology
"As a CBU biology major, I took very difficult courses, but what helped me success
and helped me make it through was the professors at CBU and their engagement and their
dedication to courses. They really made the classes I was taking interesting and they
created a passion in me for my major.
"Because of their influence, I am now succeeding as a student at Loma Linda University School of Dentistry and a big part in that is owed to my CBU professors because of their passion for my life and my career. Not only are the professors experts in their fields, they are committed to faith and learning."
Kyle Brodmann '12 B.S. Biology
"It was not my intent to go into medicine, but through the encouragement of my CBU professors and my studies there I realized that the medical field was something I could go into and further the kingdom of God. Now I'm at Loma Linda University in my second year of medical school and I realize with what I want to do and what I love doing. I am able to spread the gospel and make his name known."
Robbie Willett '11 B.S. Mathematics
"CBU professors really want you to succeed which I found very helpful in motivating me and getting me to move forward with my mathematics career. And now I'm pursuing my doctorate and I couldn’t be happier with the math education I received at CBU."
Ryan Welsh '14 B.A. Graphic Design
"I'm a CBU graphic design major and, for me, real-life experience is everything. Having professors that have open door policies and work in the industry and know what it takes to succeed is irreplaceable. The friendship I have with them and the references that I can gain from them are experiences that would be impossible to have at any other university, specifically at a big state university."
Hector Jimenez, '10 B.A. Music
"The staff here at CBU really cares. They dedicate a lot of time and effort diving into the things you want out of your music and the things you want out of your life and how you want to apply your music into your future."
Chase Kuhn, '07 Applied Theology
"I wanted to get into a program that would equip for ministry and heard about CBU's
Bachelor of Applied Theology. The program mixes university-level theological education
with practical skills including three years of local-church internships.
"I was fortunate enough to serve in an internship under the supervision of one of my professors. I was changed forever and, since Cal Baptist, have gone on to complete a master’s in divinity and am now in a Ph.D. program. As I look back, I think about how important the foundation I received at CBU has been to me."
Sarah Anderson, '09 M.S. Athletic Training
"CBU's program was recommended to be by a former professor of mine. She said that
the instructors were really qualified and I was looking to get my degree at a smaller
private school. I had an amazing experience at CBU. The faculty and staff treated
us like family. I had a great time getting to know my fellow students and serving
"The process made me more effective in my career because my instructors taught me to network with other trainers in the field. The program works with a lot of local community colleges and universities so I had the opportunity to meet a lot of other professionals. Those skills helped me to get the job I have today which is incredible because I get to use all of the knowledge I learned at CBU."
Todd Conger, '11 M.S. Athletic Training
"I was an athlete and was often injured and it was an athletic trainer that got me back on the court. I chose CBU because it is the only university in the Western United States with this program. My experience at CBU was very positive and family-oriented. The faculty are highly qualified, the staff are very helpful and the students are genuinely friendly. The Christian perspective reminds us we are here for a greater purpose. The process made me very comfortable while transitioning into my career and my place in the world."
Sally D'Anna, '09 B.S. Nursing
"I decided to try for a management position but my hospital required a bachelor’s degree for those positions. So this was my opportunity and I knew I wanted to go to CBU. My professors share their experiences working with patients and I enjoy the other students I went to school with. The program has taught me how to deal with patients and fellow nurses holistically and spiritually. I attribute much of this new perspective to my education at CBU and thank God for the opportunity."
Kyle Stone, '14 Kinesiology
The mission of CBU is that it will do everything possible to help the students live their purpose. Before I came to CBU, I did not have any idea what my purpose was. That is, until I entered the Kinesiology program. The program and professors have helped me realize what my purpose truly is. Through my Kinesiology studies, I have been able to achieve many things that I never thought I was capable of. I came to CBU with the goal of just graduating with no intent of continuing after. But now, after receiving guidance and help from my CBU professors, I will be enrolling in a doctorate of physical therapy program. CBU's Kinesiology program and professors showed me that my purpose in life was bigger than I thought and that I truly am capable of anything. I am ready and prepared for my doctoral studies and I have my CBU professors to thank for that.
Matthew Carter, '14 Healthcare Administration
Each of my CBU professors has been very knowledgeable in their areas of expertise. They are always willing to present us with new opportunities and will take the extra step to help us understand if we are struggling with something. I have grown tremendously both mentally and spiritually since enrolling in the Healthcare Administration program. The courses themselves are tough but the professors always seem to find unique ways and interesting ways to relate Christ into their teachings. My studies as a CBU Healthcare Administration student have provided me with the confidence to go out into the professional world. I am ready to take on life's challenges just as God intends me to.
Hannah Stipek, ‘14 B.S. Nutrition & Food Sciences
Through the skills and knowledge I gained from this program, I have the confidence, the tools, and the experience to take on a professional career in the field of nutrition. I have the ability to apply knowledge of food and lifestyle choices on individuals and groups to better, not only my community, but also communities around the world.
