Department of Public Health Sciences
Welcome to the Department of Public Health Sciences
On behalf of the faculty, I welcome you to the Department of Public Health Sciences at CBU. Our faculty is committed to teaching, research, and service in the areas of Health Science, Communication Disorders, Nutrition Sciences, Public Health, and Health Care Administration. Additionally, we are excited about our new programs in Physician Assistant Studies and Radiological Sciences. The Department of Public Health Sciences faculty are focused on educating students at both the intellectual and the spiritual levels.
Our degree programs are rigorous, requiring students to focus on their academic preparation for graduate school or for immediate employment in the health professions. Many of our alumni have gone onto medical school, physician assistant programs, nursing programs, and masters or doctoral programs in public health, health care management, nutrition, and speech and language pathology. Other alumni are employed in hospitals, businesses, and community agencies at the local, state, national levels.
Our master's programs prepare students to be practitioners in public health and health care. We are also excited about our planned Master of Science in Communication Disorders program which will prepare students for careers in speech language pathology in a variety of settings. These programs prepare students to be research based, practice ready, and Christ focused.
Our highly qualified faculty are dedicated to student success both in the class and in the real-world. You'll find that our faculty are actively involved in important research, serve as consultants in the community, and are state, regional and national leaders in their discipline. Students in all of our programs have personalized attention from our faculty and upon graduation, they can be sure that we have worked diligently to prepare them for the next steps in their careers.
This is a very exciting time in public health and health care. The demand for health professionals has never been greater and job availability is excellent. According to employment projections from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, over 65% of all occupations in the United States will be health-related and the median starting salary for those with a degree in a health-related field is significantly higher than for those in other fields. Most important, a major in the health sciences ensures exciting careers and offer opportunities to make a lasting and meaningful difference in the lives of others.
I urge you to explore our academic programs, various student organizations, and the many opportunities to be involved in research projects, internships, and global mission trips. We have a vibrant department with outstanding faculty, dedicated staff, and students who want to make a difference in the live others. We invite you to join us! Our doors are always open. If you have questions, please feel free to contact myself or any of our professors in the Department of Public Health Sciences.
