Intensive English Program Course Information
The Intensive English Program (IEP) offers four levels (Beginning, Low Intermediate, High Intermediate, and Advanced) taught in 15-16 week semesters, with a 10 week session during the summer. These sessions are taught year round, offer approximately 20 hours of class time per week, and include the courses listed below.
Beginning – Level 1 Courses:
- Beginning Reading and Academic Vocabulary
- Beginning Writing with Grammar Emphasis
- Oral Communication I
- Life Skills
- Pronunciation I
Low Intermediate – Level 2 Courses:
- Low Intermediate Reading and Academic Vocabulary
- Low Intermediate Writing with Grammar Emphasis
- Oral Communication II
- Historical and Cultural Foundations of America
- Pronunciation II
High Intermediate – Level 3 Courses:
- Cultivating Reading Effectiveness and Word Analysis
- Grammar Application in Paragraphs and Essays
- Enhancing Basic Academic Discourse
- Preparation for University Academic Culture
- Business English
**At this level, students have an opportunity to take at least one university-level course for credit.
Advanced – Level 4 Courses:
- Expanding Reading Proficiency and Academic Vocabulary
- Essay Construction and Basic Research Skills
- Communicative Competence in the Classroom
- Developing Presentation Skills
- Introduction to Research Skills
**At this level, students have an opportunity to take at least two university-level courses for credit.
