Student Learning Outcomes
CBU Civil Engineering graduates are expected to:
- Be able to apply sufficient mathematics knowledge necessary for civil and environmental engineering including calculus, probability and statistics, and differential equations to solve engineering problems and to develop necessary tools for a professional engineering career.
- Be able to apply physics, chemistry and other engineering science necessary for civil and environmental engineering to solve engineering problems and to develop necessary tools for a professional engineering career.
- Be able to identify, formulate, and solve civil engineering problems, evaluate multiple solutions and select an appropriate solution.
- Be able to design and conduct civil engineering testing and experiments as well as analyze and interpret experimental results/data
- Be able to assess imperfect or incomplete data conditions, risks and alternatives into problem-solving decisions
- Be able to design a system, component, or process to meet desired needs within realistic constraints such as economic, , environmental, social, political, ethical, health and safety, manufacturability and sustainability
- Be able to communicate effectively in written, oral, and graphical forms.
- Be able to functions both independently and as a part of a multidisciplinary project and/or research teams.
- Be able to incorporate effective negotiation or consensus-gaining in group decision making
- Know the basic concepts in leadership
- Be able to articulate a Christian worldview on personal, professional, technical and societal issues.
- Understand professional and ethical responsibility and the value of mentorship and peer support.
- Understand impact of engineering solutions in global, economic, environmental and societal context, and provide professional engineering leadership in the solution of community, regional, national and global problems.
- Recognize the need for and ability to engage in self-learning and lifelong learning skills essential for professional growth after graduation and for professional engineering exam.
- Be able to use the principles, techniques, skills and modern engineering tools necessary for successful engineering practice and design in their chosen fields associated with civil and environmental engineering.
- Be able to include non-engineering considerations, including business, regulatory and safety issues in problem solving
- Know and apply of project planning, and management practices and tools
- Gain a base-level competency in seven specialized areas of civil engineering (Environmental; Water Resources; Structures; Soil Mechanics and Foundation; Transportation; Construction Management; Surveying). Therefore graduates will be well prepared for professional licensure in civil engineering, with all of the graduates already completed the first step by passing the FE examination within a year of graduation.
