Lancers basketball teams to compete at PacWest Tournament

RIVERSIDE, Calif. (March 5, 2014) --- As the only school to have both men's and women's basketball teams receive a first-round bye to the PacWest Championship Tournament, California Baptist University will look to compete for its first-ever tournament title starting Friday, March 7.

No. 11-ranked men's basketball will compete first, taking on the winner of Chaminade and BYU-Hawaii on Friday at 3:15 p.m. The Lancers sit 24-2 overall and head into the tournament as the No. 1 seed after boasting an 18-2 PacWest record to claim the regular season title.

On the women's side, CBU secured the No. 2 seed after defeating Dixie State 96-85 on Saturday to close out the regular season with a 15-11 overall record, 13-7 in conference action. The Lancers' first test will be against the winner of Hawai'i Hilo and Hawai'i Pacific, scheduled for a Friday 7:45 p.m. tipoff.

Both teams will need to win their semifinal matchups in order to advance to the tournament championships, held Saturday at 5 p.m. for the men and 7:45 p.m. for the women. Winners of the tournament will get an automatic bid to the NCAA Division II West Region Tournament held next week.
